Pet Friendly Shopping in Kingston
LAST UPDATED 13/7/19
This blog post idea comes from a friend who loves to take her dog shopping with her if she can. I thought it was a great idea! My dog is too happy to be anywhere (she actually cries with happiness if we go for a walk in the woods) so we hardly ever even bring her to the pet store with us.
I spent some time calling around to local shops. The ones that allow dogs in were super friendly on the phone and so happy to tell me that dogs were allowed! I truly believe that loving dogs makes us happier! Please note that I did not contact businesses that make or sell food as that really isn’t fair to expect them to allow dogs in for food safety reasons unless they are a service dog. I also did not call every shop in town – if I’ve missed someone please let me know. I’d like this to be a working list that I can add (or subtract from) as needed.

Hallmark….sort of. I called and got a vague answer about it depending on who is in the store at the time. They do have a sign in the window that says no dogs. So I would avoid bringing my dog in.

Many restaurants (especially downtown) have water set outside so that your dog can be tied up while you eat. Please keep in mind that water is not enough to keep your dog cool on a hot day if they are in the sun on hot concrete.
The Cataraqui Centre only allows service dogs. But I’ve been told dogs can enter Indigo from the parking lot entrance.
Of course pet stores are pet friendly too!
If in doubt of bringing your dog, especially during the summer, either call the store ahead of time or leave your pouch at home!
nohotpets.ca is a great resource from the Ontario SPCA which tells you what to do if you see a dog left in a hot car.
Pet Friendly has a directory of pet-friendly hotels and accommodations.
HAPPY SHOPPING!
